Paderborn University research project presents product at the European Microwave Week
Precise signals for data transmission are essential for measurement technology, radar systems and telecommunications. In the “RadiOptics” research project, which was launched last June at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute at Paderborn University and from which QuSinus GmbH emerged, scientists are therefore working on a signal generator that aims to reduce potential…
Lean production methods, digital tools, engineering design, use of collaborative robots – in the "Applied Production Technology" course, students analyze and design an assembly system. They gain practical experience, adapt assembly and storage systems and optimize processes. The new designed assembly system is simulated in the “SAMRT Innovation Lab” laboratory infrastructure. The findings enable them to identify and implement further optimization…
Digital business models require digital expertise - this is how Alena Tušek presented the BMBF project "KLUG" coordinated by the Chair for Product Creation at the kick-off of the "DaWeNa-HUB" on 26 June in Munich. The DaWeNa-HUB bundles all projects funded in the "DigiLeistDAT" funding programme. Dominik Wiechel, Alena Tušek and Annika Reich also took part in workshops on the topics of digital business model innovations, data strategies in the…
Ricarda-Samantha Götte successfully completed her doctorate on the topic of “Online estimation of model inaccuracies for automatic model adaptation while maintaining a physical-technical interpretability”. The first supervisor and DART follow-up group leader was Dr Julia Timmermann, the chair of the doctoral committee was Prof. Dr Ansgar Trächtler.
Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is the development of a model-based observer for input-affine,…
Generative Design in lightweight construction for mobility systems – the BIKINI research project of our workgroup " product creation", funded by the BMWK and launched in 2021, is coming to an end after 3 years. The jointly developed methods and software prototypes enable the automated collection of requirements and end-to-end sustainability assessment. The case study developed for different application scenarios showed the great relevance for…
Our Circuit Technology Group is organizing a workshop on 26th September 2024 at the “European Microwave Week 2024” (22nd to 27th September 2024) in Paris.

Workshop WTh04 (EuMC): Microwave Photonics for Wireless Sensing
Thursday 26th September 08:30am to 5:50 pm
Enhancing purely electronic sensors with photonic components can be beneficial for various applications, such as automated driving. For instance, fiber optical…
The third consortium meeting of the LiRaS research project, in which our Circuit Technology group is involved, took place on 29 and 30 July. All consortium partners were invited to the Heinz Nixdorf Institute in Paderborn to plan the next steps of the project. After clarifying current technical issues, the first working day was rounded off with a tour of the city and a visit to the Libori Festival.
LiRaS is a novel sensor system that combines…
As part of the DiSerHub project, the Heinz Nixdorf Institute has incorporated the EDGE 6D driving simulator from Gforcefactory B.V. into its research infrastructure. Thanks to its hexapod architecture, it can control all six spatial degrees of freedom and thus enable a realistic simulation of dynamic driving manoeuvres.
Our new driving simulator is now part of Prof Ansgar Trächtler's Control Engineering and Mechatronics department and will be…
He was appointed as a new member at the Board of Trustees meeting on June 4, 2024 and has since been confirmed by the Executive Board.
Prof. Ngonga Ngomo has headed the “Data Science” (DICE) department at Paderborn University for more than seven years, whose research has led to more than 25 international research awards, and is now also a member of the Heinz Nixdorf Institute's Board of Directors.
Professor Ngonga Ngomo and his team focus on…
The QuSinus project team has secured second place in the highly competitive #neuland x ATEC (Aachen Technology and Entrepreneurship Congress) start-up competition, giving them the chance to win an investment of 300,000 euros from Campus Capital, part of STS Ventures. They were nominated by garage33, which was also a great support in their preparations for the competition.
The recognition at #neuland x ATEC is proof of the potential importance of…
Harshan Gowda Malavalli Nagaraju (System and Circuit Technology Group) was awarded the 3rd place for the Nachwuchspreis 2024 by "Freunde des IHP e.V." for his master's thesis on "Design and Analysis of PAM-4 Bang-Bang Phase Detector for High-Speed Half-rate CDR Circuit in 22nm FDSOI" on 20th June 2024.
The "Freunde des IHP e.V." association has been awarding a nationwide prize for outstanding technical and scientific bachelor's, master's, and…
Dr Peter Hertenstein (Circuit Technology Group) impressed the jury at the ATEC (Aachen Technology and Entrepreneurship Congress) in Aachen with an outstanding pitch.
He thus secured a potential (subject to due diligence) 300,000 euro investment from Campus Capital (initiated by STS Ventures) for his team QuSinus.
Congratulations to the entire team with Dr Peter Hertenstein, Saeed Fard, Prof Christoph Scheytt and Meysam Bahmanian.

Technology is impressive, but is it useful? After 18 months in the CREXDATA project, a first series of tests were carried out - with direct feedback from fire officers in Innsbruck and Dortmund. The Product Creation workgroup is coordinating the use case on extreme weather events with the aim of aligning highly innovative technology with the needs of disaster management applications. These initial tests focussed on flood situations caused by…
