Maurice Meyer successfully completed his doctorate on the topic of "Systematics for the planning and utilisation of operating data analyses in strategic product planning" under the supervision of Prof. Dr Roman Dumitrescu. Congratulations to him!

Abstract:

Strategic product planning is decisive for the success of new product generations. A valuable source of information is the use phase of previous generations, which reveals product weaknesses or user behavior, for example. So far, however, reliable data and information feedback is rarely achieved. A new approach to solving this problem is the evaluation of use phase data from cyber-physical systems using data analytics solutions. However, planning and exploiting use phase data analyses are challenging tasks.

The goal of this dissertation is to develop a systematic approach for planning and exploiting use phase data analyses in strategic product planning. It consists of four elements. The first is a reference model for strategic planning of new product generations. It transfers classical strategic product planning into the product generation context. The second is a reference process for use-phase-data-driven product planning. It describes the procedural integration of use phase data analyses into strategic product planning. A method for planning and a method for exploiting use phase data analyses are the third and fourth elements, respectively. The primary target group of the developed systematic approach are product managers of manufacturing companies who are responsible for the strategic evolution of a product. The systematic approach was applied and evaluated with four companies.
