General

I get a new colleague - workflow to generate a login for the HNI

Create user account

The new employee/SHK/trainee requires a login to the IMT.

  • IMT login is available

In both cases:

  • Hand over the completed login application, signed by the user and supervisor, to the HNI's computer centre. If desired, inform the computer centre which additional Windows groups the user should be assigned to and whether the user should be able to edit the web pages of the specialist group.

  • The IMT will automatically create an Exchange account for employees, but not for students.

What should I do if the user already exists?

Variant 1: User exists and is active
Example: User = RIP => MuD FG-Admin adds user to the group hilfskräfte-mud via groups/MuD/

Variant 2: User exists and is locked
Example: User = RIP
a) RIP-FG-Admin or RB reactivates user via people/RIP/Students/...
b) goto variant 1

Variant 3: User exists and should be moved to MuD
Example: User = RIP
a) RB moves the user manually from RIP to MuD
b) ua_client.pl (not yet finished)

Delete users:

Leave the deletion of users to Axel, as various tasks are associated with this (removing IMT forwarding, list server forwarding etc., DaSi of the home area, converting the account into a contact, ...).

Where can I find login requests?

In computer mode directly or via the following links:

User regulations

Login request

Where can I read the user regulations?

On the page User organisation.

How can I access my data in the HNI from home?

Within the university, any (UNIX) HNI computer can be accessed via SSH. Access from outside, however, is restricted to one computer. Please use the computer hni-gate.upb.de. This computer can be accessed from anywhere using SSH or SSH2.

  • under UNIX with scp or also sftp
  • under Windows with the programme SSH for Windows

With SSH it is also possible to create tunnels for any ports. This allows you to start a session on a terminal server, for example, and work normally under Windows.

Install the Windows terminal service client at home. Then start SSH, create a tunnel according to this example and connect to the computer hni-gate.upb.de. Now start the terminal services client and enter localhost as the server. You can log in as normal in the window that then opens.

How does the VPN work?

To be able to use the HNI VPN, you need a login to the HNI that has been activated for the VPN. Please contact the computer operations department for activation.

Access to the VPN is via the computer vpn.hni.uni-paderborn University.de.

From the VPN it is possible to establish a connection to the computer hni-pwm. Here the password can be changed in the domain HNIRB(hni.uni-paderborn.de).

Access to Samba shares from Windows computers that are not in the Windows domain of the HNI is currently not possible.
