Our researchers are unique. Here they introduce themselves and show their very personal side behind the scientific work.

Tobias Cord-Landwehr:

"I have been a research assistant in the Communications Engineering workgroup since 2020.
After writing my Bachelor's thesis in the field of speech processing, I then specialised in audio processing and communication technology in my Master's degree and wrote my Master's thesis on interference suppression of superimposed speech. What excites me most about speech technologies is that they make the world smaller. They make it possible to communicate with each other anywhere in the world without having to speak the same language.

I am currently researching the automatic transcription of conversational situations, for example for transcribing business meetings. In particular, I am working on what is known as "diarisation". These are components that detect who is talking and when. This makes it possible to separate mixtures of two speakers who have interrupted each other and to assign what has been said to the correct speaker after transcription.

Apart from my research, I find the exchange with other researchers worldwide particularly exciting. I had the opportunity to travel to Korea and India to present my research there and get to know these countries better.
I enjoy travelling outside of conferences; this summer, for example, I took a tour of the Baltic States by train and ferry.

I discovered yoga a few years ago as a way of balancing my work. For me, it's the perfect way to switch off and offers a great balance to sitting at a desk."
