Marc Deegen, a doctoral candidate in our Communications Engineering group, spent eight weeks of his summer at the 32nd Jelinek Summer Workshop on Speech and Language Technology (JSALT) in Brno in the Czech Republic.
The workshop has been organised annually by the Center for Language and Speech Processing at Johns Hopkins University for 30 years. The JSALT brings together teams with team members from all over the world to conduct joint research on current problems in the field of speech signal and text processing, known as "speech and language engineering".
The workshops contribute to the training of professionals in the fields of speech and natural language processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence by providing intensive training for Bachelor's and Master's students, giving researchers from different backgrounds the opportunity to learn from each other and providing further training for all workshop participants through guest lectures, seminars and team research updates.
Deegen was able to participate in research on the "End to end Multi channel Multi talker ASR" this year. In this topic area, the team focussed on the transcription of speech signals in challenging scenarios.
