Identifying, collecting and using sustainability data – in the project lab “Digital Factory” led by Dr.-Ing. Jens Pottebaum, Felix Vollenkemper and Carmen De Groote, students developed a tool to evaluate the sustainability of a production process. Using software tools for simulation and real-time data and sustainability metrics, they analyzed the production of a remote-controlled car in the workgroup's Smart Automation Laboratory. After a four-week high-performance phase, the participants presented the tool – with industry-related experience of how they can use the “digital factory” in planning and control to shape the carbon footprint of a production process.
