From 16 to 18 September 2026, the conference "Democratic Technology? Technical Democracy?" will take place in Stuttgart. Prof. Suzana Alpsancar, head of our "Philosophy and Ethics of Scientific and Technological Cultures" workgroup, is organising the event together with the High Performance Computing Centre (HLRS) Stuttgart.
The topic will be the reciprocal relationship between technology and democracy. How do technological systems shape democratic processes and how do democratic values shape the development and regulation of technology? The focus will be on historical and current perspectives, from ancient democracy to AI-supported decision-making processes.
A publication on the contributions presented is planned for 2027 in the journal "Technikgeschichte".
