Matthias Günther successfully completed his doctorate on the topic "Framework for the pattern-based design of System of Systems" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Roman Dumitrescu.
Summary of the doctoral dissertation:
Connectivity and collaboration of systems is considered as a success factor for current and, especially, future solutions. Through the interaction of different systems goals are achieved that cannot be realized by the individual systems alone. A holistic view of system networks across company boundaries opens up new ways for solutions and expands functionalities. The challenge lies in systematically addressing the complex technical possibilities of interconnected systems while taking into account different interests and potential conflicts of objectives.
The goal of this work is to develop a framework for the design of system of systems (SoS) according to the specific needs of the use case. This framework enables companies and interest groups to develop and manage system networks according to their goals. Companies will be able to make decisions about collaborations and to identify and carry out suitable development activities under various conditions. The framework consists of five design concepts that take into account the different requirements and objectives of SoS. It provides guidance by providing suitable methods and a process model for systematic application. To further support the design of SoS, solution knowledge is available in the form of solution patterns and principles. This work is the result of research conducted within the MoSyS project and has been evaluated with three companies.
