Julian Weller successfully completed his doctorate on the topic of "Specification technology for prescriptive analytics solutions in production" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Roman Dumitrescu.

Summary of the doctoral dissertation:

Manufacturing companies are undergoing a transformation towards becoming data-driven enterprises due to an increasing level of digitalisation. The inherent complexity of production is placing increasingly high demands on decision-makers. The use of prescriptive analytics promises great potential for rationalisation and process improvement in decision-making processes, particularly in production-related areas. Prescriptive analytics is used to directly recommend the necessary action for the decision and thus provide a maximum degree of decision support. However, prescriptive analytics has so far only been implemented in lighthouse projects and is not used across the board. A fundamental challenge is the lack of support in the planning, conceptualisation and integration of the described use cases.

The aim of this specification technique is to support the planning, design and integration of prescriptive analytics solutions in production. A process model is used to structure the overall project. To implement the individual phases, a modelling concept including artefacts is provided to support the completion of the proposed partial models in a logical sequence. Exemplary artefacts for support are a reference architecture for the integration of prescriptive analytics use cases into production and a generic capability map for planning the anchoring of the required organisational capabilities. The evaluation of the specification technique is based on an application example from the manufacturing industry.
