A visit that highlighted the role played by so-called ‘hidden players’: although often little known, they make a crucial contribution to the creation of many everyday products. Students from the class “Sustainable Product Development” run by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Iris Gräßler in our “Product Development” workgroup visited the special-purpose machine manufacturer KOCH Technology in Leopoldshöhe. Through the development of woodworking machines, the students gained insights into sustainable and innovative special-purpose machine engineering. It became clear just how important creative solutions and bespoke designs are for custom-made machines. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Koch Group for their dedicated support and the fascinating insights.
