Our “Data Science” workgroup presented a range of papers at conferences in Brazil, Norway and the United Arab Emirates.

In June, our research associate Daniel Vollmers presented the paper “Noisy Optimisation in Fine-Tuning LMs for Neural Ranking” by Daniel Vollmers, Arnab Sharma and Axel Ngonga at the Natural Language & Information Systems (NLDB 2026) conference in Trondheim, Norway.

Another paper from the research group was presented at the end of June at the ACM Web Conference 2026 (WWW 26) in Dubai. Research associate Ana da Silva presented the paper “A Simplex Approach to Synthetic Knowledge Graph Generation” by Ana Alexandra Morim da Silva, Atul Bhopalsing Pundir, Michael Röder and Axel Ngonga.

The paper “Rethinking Explanations: Formalising Contrast in Description Logics”, authored by Yasir Mahmood, Arnab Sharma, Axel Ngonga and Balram Tiwari, was presented in early July at XAI 2026 (World Conference on eXplainable Artificial Intelligence) in Fortaleza, Brazil. The presentation was given by Yasir Mahmood, a research assistant in our “Data Science” research group.
