Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kevin Malena, a postdoc and project leader in our “Control Engineering and Mechatronics” workgroup, took up the Chair in Micromobility at the Private University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Technology (PHWT) in Diepholz on 1 September 2026.
In recent years, Kevin has been working with us at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute, particularly in the field of transport research. His work has encompassed the research and development of sustainable control and observation concepts, with a focus on practical implementation and collaboration with academic and non-academic partners. A prime example of this is the “VIP+” project EEBEO (https://www.uni-paderborn.de/projekt/2428), which will continue to be developed here at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute by our ‘Control Engineering and Mechatronics’ research group until 2028.
On 1 September, Kevin took up the Chair of Micromobility at the PHWT. In his new role, he aims to further advance the areas of sustainable and innovative mobility and to closely integrate research, teaching and practical application. The focus will be, amongst other things, on issues surrounding new forms of mobility, their integration into existing transport systems, and the development of practical solutions for the mobility of tomorrow.
