Our researchers are unique. Here they introduce themselves and show their very personal side behind the scientific work.
Leon Bußemas:
"I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering at Paderborn University. Towards the end of my bachelor's degree, I started working as a student assistant in the Control Engineering and Mechatronics workgroup at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute. I particularly appreciated the fact that I was able to gain valuable practical experience early on and gain exciting insights into current research topics.
During my studies, I got to know very different subject areas through my bachelor's, student research projects and master's thesis. The content ranged from hardware-in-the-loop simulations and the modelling of a small bakery to complex traffic control. This diversity showed me how broadly diversified our department is.
After graduating, I stayed at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute and have been working as a research assistant since 2021. My research is dedicated to the simulation of LiDAR sensors under bad weather conditions. As part of the "rosshaf" research project, I was able to intensively investigate the effects of these conditions on sensor technology for autonomous driving.
What particularly enriches my day-to-day work is the constant dialogue with my colleagues. For me, working together on complex issues and sharing perspectives is at the heart of successful research and drives new ideas forward.
In my free time, I like to do sports: I ride a racing bike and go running. Here in Paderborn, the Easter Run and the St Martin's Run are a particular highlight for me."
