Our researchers are one of a kind. Here, they introduce themselves and reveal their personal side, beyond their academic work.

Faiza Tahir:

“I am a doctoral candidate and have a keen interest in AI security and the development of trustworthy and secure AI systems. My academic career began in Computer Science, followed by a Master’s degree in information security, which provided me with a solid grounding in software systems, cyber security and new intelligent technologies.

Alongside my academic studies, I gained several years’ practical experience in industry developing security-related software and systems, including in areas such as authentication, authorisation and accounting (AAA), as well as security monitoring and security management solutions. This experience gave me a practical understanding of how security principles are applied in real-world systems and strengthened my interest in tackling security challenges through both research and technical development. During my Master’s degree, I also explored topics such as smartwatch forensics and data protection and privacy in vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), including cryptographic approaches for intelligent and connected vehicles.


Building on this combination of academic and industrial experience, I am now dedicated to research in the field of AI security. My work focuses on understanding and addressing security challenges throughout the entire design and operational lifecycle of AI systems. I am particularly interested in areas such as AI security architecture, threat modelling, security decisions at the architectural level, and methods for securing AI and agent-based systems. Another key aspect of my research concerns runtime protection and observability, with the aim of being able to monitor, analyse and protect AI systems whilst they are in operation.

Outside of research, I enjoy travelling, cooking, baking and painting. I’m also interested in fashion and creative fashion design, which allows me to explore a different side of creativity beyond technology and research."
