„Today, digitalization and sustainability are considered the most important drivers of change for manufacturing companies. With Advanced Systems Engineering, we develop interdisciplinary solutions to master the challenges that arise in the best possible way.”

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Roman Dumitrescu,
Head of the specialist group "Advanced Systems Engineering" at Heinz Nixdorf Institute, Paderborn University from Paderborn

Advanced Systems Engineering

Advanced Systems Engineering stands for the future-orientated development of intelligent technical systems. At a time when digitalisation is acting as a key driver of change, fascinating potential uses are opening up as well as changes for industry and society.

This is where we come in: Through the interplay of electronics, IT and mechanical engineering, we are pursuing the goal of establishing new ways of thinking and working for product creation that go beyond traditional development methods. The focus is on a holistic approach and close integration of the central tasks in this process.

By exchanging expertise, developing innovative methods and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, we are actively shaping the next generation of technical systems. More...

Research

Research focuses on the product development of intelligent technical systems. With Advanced Systems Engineering, the department focusses on an interdisciplinary technology-supported development approach that focuses on the entire innovation process - from strategic planning to market success.

Research topics
Rows of seats filled with students in the Auditorium maximum of Paderborn University.

Teaching

We are intensively involved in the teaching and training of students and young academics such as doctoral candidates, post-doctoral candidates and junior professors with the aim of providing them with the skills they need to shape the future.

Courses

Projects

We can provide companies with significant impetus for innovation and for maintaining their competitiveness. There are many approaches to this. They range from the placement of graduates through collaborative projects to contract developments, which we generally carry out via our spin-offs.

Project overview

„My eternal questioning has led me down this path: How do all these machines work that we use every day, whether driving or in other everyday situations, and that seem to be a natural part of our lives?”

Lisa Irene Petzke,
Wissenschaftlerin der Fachgruppe "Advanced Systems Engineering" am Heinz Nixdorf Institut der Universität Paderborn

A forum for strategists at high level
December 23th & 24th | Berlin

More than ever, strategic competence is essential, i.e. recognizing tomorrow's potential for success at an early stage and exploiting this potential in good time.

The event offers a sophisticated forum in which experts from industry and science can present and discuss their work and exchange experiences.
