Virtual Technologies in Engineering (VirtEng)

Contents

Virtual Technologies have great potentials to support engineering activities, tasks, and processes. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) enable the three-dimensional and immersive visualization of digital models and information. This can be either in a completely new virtual world using VR or overlaid on the real environment with AR. The benefits of AR and VR for engineering are obvious. For example, products can be easily presented, verified, and validated using virtual mock-ups. Workers can be interactively instructed to solve complex problems and tasks. Qualification and training can also be conducted much more efficiently in virtual environments without risking the health of the user or damaging real machines. In this project group, we want to focus on some of the potentials of AR and VR in different engineering areas and develop respective applications for innovative AR and VR devices.
