Contents

This textbook, founded by Otto Föllinger, was first published in 1972 and has become a standard work on control engineering. It achieves its aim of familiarising the reader with the conceptual system and methodology of control engineering and its application through its systematic structure, good readability and practical relevance. No emphasis is placed on mathematical rigour, but rather on ensuring that the motivation behind the concepts and procedures is clear, that the conclusions can be easily understood and remain as descriptive as possible. Numerous realistic examples confirm the efficiency of the theoretical methods.

Based on the clear description of the systems using the structural image, the classic analysis and synthesis methods in the frequency range are dealt with. This is followed by a detailed description of the time-domain method (state description), which includes several methods for designing state control systems and order reduction.

Four of Otto Föllinger's students, Ulrich Konigorski, Boris Lohmann, Günter Roppenecker and Ansgar Trächtler, present a revised edition of this classic textbook, which takes into account significant developments in recent years.

Author

Prof. Dr rer. nat. Dr.-Ing. E. h. Otto Föllinger (1924-1999) held the Chair of Control Systems at the University of Karlsruhe for many years. He wrote a series of textbooks on various areas of control engineering. These have been widely used due to his exceptional ability to convey even complex issues clearly. With this new edition of the basic textbook, four of his former colleagues, who now also hold chairs in control engineering, are continuing his work.
