Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ansgar Trächtler studied electrical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) and 1991 received his doctorate at the Chair of Control Systems with Prof. Föllinger. From 1992 to 1998 he worked as scientific assistant at the Instititute of Measurement and Control Systems (Prof. Mesch) of the University of Karlsruhe, habilitated in 2000 and received his Venia Legendi in “Measurement and Control Engineering“. For his scientific work he received the Eugen Hartmann Award of GMA and the Measurement Technology Award of AHMT (Arbeitskreis der Hochschullehrer für Messtechnik e. V) in 1998. From 1998 to 2004 he worked with Robert Bosch GmbH. Since 2005, he has been professor and head of the Chair of Control Engineering and Mechatronics of the University of Paderborn. From 2011 to 2015 he established the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Systems Design (IEM) which he is chairing since then. Additionally he is involved with acatech - National Academy of Science and Engineering, with VDI/VDE-Gesellschaft für Mess- und Automatisierungstechnik (GMA) and with the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) and he is member of the advisory boards of L-Lab (Research institute for automotive lighting and mechatronics, Lippstadt) and IMMS (Research institut for microelektronic and mechatronic systems, Ilmenau).
