Abstract

Latest research in the field of fully autonomous driving led to a new control approach based on decentralized control algorithms, which uses consensus methods. The aim of this new approach is to balance a macroscopic traffic value such as the traffic density, within a road network segment of limited area to avoid traffic jams and to maximize the throughput. For this approach, it is however necessary to divide the road network into multiple individual segments of limited area in an adequate way. This work analyses the reliability of an algorithmic metric which determines initial locations for such segments by only considering the road network topology. Therefore the metric is applied to a quantity of similar German cities and the results are discussed in this contribution.
