Prof. Dr.-Ing. Iris Graessler holds the Chair for Product Creation at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute since October 2013. In 1999 she received her doctorate degree and in 2003 she qualified as a professor at the Chair for Production Systematics, Machine Tool Laboratory at RWTH Aachen University. During her thirteen years at Robert Bosch GmbH, she was responsible for product creation, production system design and change management in various project and line management functions. The product range included mechatronic modules, control units, electronic components and sensors.
Her research focus lies on Model-Based Product Creation. On basis of models, cause effect relations are objectively explained and thus actively shaped. Main attention lies on Intelligent Technical Systems, i.e. adaptive configurable mechatronic systems and cyber-physical systems. Her current research interests are Model-Based Scenario Technique, Requirements Engineering, Systems Engineering and Development Methods as well as Digitalization. She has published her scientific findings in over 100 national and international papers.
In order to further develop and transregionally harmonize development methods, Graessler commits herself to the leadership of several Technical Committees in VDI Society for Product and Process Design (GPP) and the VDI/VDE Society for Measuring and Automation Technology (GMA). As program chair she is involved in numerous national and international conferences. She teaches in a competence-oriented manner embedding current problems of interested industrial companies in order to develop a pronounced problem-solving ability for the future mechanical and industrial engineers. At the same time she is chairman of the examination committee for industrial engineering at the University of Paderborn. Her further functions are VDI-GMA Council Member, Scientific Advisory Board Member for the Application Center “Industrie 4.0 Potsdam” and Heinz Nixdorf Institute Board Member.
Due to her scientific achievements she was appointed to the Scientific Society for Product Development (WiGeP).
