„Leicht-Effizient-Mobil“ – Energy and cost-efficient extremely lightweight construction with hybrid materials

One key to solving these challenges lies in the implementation of an extremely lightweight construction of moving masses for broad applications. As a central starting point, the use of hybrid materials results in a considerable reduction in resource and energy consumption. The basic idea takes into account the fact that the load on components is generally inhomogeneous. Therefore, by means of a localized, partial reinforcement with a high-strength, light, but possibly expensive material, economic and technical aspects can be optimized and affordable lightweight construction can be realized. In addition to the technological development of materials and processes, the group also provides doctoral students with an expanded perspective, which in particular enables them to place technologies in a higher-level of sociological context. The reflection of these social effects is integrated into the college as a central concern and is intended to establish a new, progressive and intradisciplinary school of thought beyond the technological considerations, so that the fellows are excellently prepared for the challenges of society and industry and their contribution to the social in the future, economic and ecological development.
