Kareem Abdelgawad was born in March 1985 in Cairo. In 2002, he joined the faculty of Engineering, Cairo University. During his university studies, he attended a training at the National Cancer Institute and accomplished many courses and projects in the field of embedded systems and programming. Kareem received his B.Sc. degree from the Systems and Biomedical Engineering department in 2007 with high distinction grade and ranked among the top three students in his class. After graduation, he worked as a field maintenance engineer for two years in AMICO, which is a leader and pioneer group in a number of medical fields. The company markets and services a broad line of surgical and diagnostic equipment used in ophthalmology, neurosurgery, dermatology and other medical fields. Kareem specialized mainly in Excimer laser that is utilized in vision correction surgeries. In 2008, he traveled to South Korea to attend a technical training in WON Technology that manufactures powerful laser machines used principally in dermatology. In 2009, Kareem attended a second intensive training in South Korea in Daeshin Enterprise, which is a global leading manufacturer of aesthetic and surgical lasers. He joined the Information Technology Institute (ITI) in late 2009 to conduct a postgraduate professional diploma in Mechatronics Engineering. ITI is a pioneer in preparing skilled individuals equipped with state-of-the-art technologies that serve in different industrial and research areas. Kareem graduated in 2010 from ITI with ‘A’ grade and ranked first in his track. After that, he moved to Germany to continue his master’s degree in Applied Mechatronics at the University of Paderborn. Kareem attended a training in Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz), a worldwide known automobile manufacturer that it is also a leading supplier of other premium brands and services. He accomplished another training in Bertrandt AG in conjunction with Audi AG that is valued for manufacturing great quality and revolutionary high-class vehicles. Kareem received his M.Eng. degree from the University of Paderborn in 2013 and works currently as a research assistant in Heinz Nixdorf Institute, University of Paderborn in Germany.
