Ad hoc Networks with Smartphones for Disaster Management Support (ANDI)

Project Group

Large scale disasters like mass accidents, storms, or earthquakes can leave groups of people in areas without functioning or overloaded communication infrastructure. But to call for and to coordinate help in affected areas communication is vital.

In this project group we want to explore possibilities to build up an ad hoc wireless network connecting Android smartphones in an infrastructure-independent way, which keeps up with the high mobility of participants. The project will be practice-oriented and consists of three main areas:

  • Development of methods/algorithms for data dissemination in highly disrupted networks

  • Implementation of said methods in a simulation environment

  • Implementation of the algorithms in an Android prototype

The project group is strongly connected to our research project RESIBES.
