Florentina

The project's objective is to develop and investigate symbiotic relationships between natural plants and swarms of robots. The general goal is to provide a collective distributed control of the robots. In order to accomplish this goal, the project will be focused on three major tasks:

  • Algorithm Design & Development: Design and implementation of a local algorithm to obtain the global overview of the structure and self-repair in case of damage.
  • Morphology: 3D printing and visualization of the structure and developing a physical engine for growing the structure.
  • Bio-Hybrid Control: working on the methods to interact with the plants and control them using various sensors and actuators.

Florentina aims at providing an opportunity to work on a wide range of research areas in computer science and engineering. Therefore, students with various interests can take part in this project and work together.

Florentina is inspired by an EU-Project (Florarobotica) focused on societies of symbiotic robot-plant bio-hybrids as social architectural artifacts. visit: www.florarobotica.eu
