Abstract

A typical mechatronic product includes mechanical parts, software techniques, electrical and electronic components. This interdisciplinary character significantly increases the complexities of mechatronic products. Therefore, inefficient communication between the engineers who come from different disciplines becomes the main challenge which the designer should
face to during the producing processes. However, innovations in the field of virtual prototyping offer potential solutions to this problem. In this paper, we introduce the concept of solution elements and present a framework of utilizing this concept and virtual reality techniques to share knowledge within a multidisciplinary work group in virtual mechatronic prototyping system.
